Cranston Portuguese Club vs Morabeza SC

9:00 AM | Chafee Field, Cranston, RI

Morabeza SC came out flying and wasted no time making their intentions clear. Just 3 minutes into the match, #18 Nuno Martins found the back of the net to ignite the attack and give Morabeza an early 1-0 lead.

The pressure continued as #24 Platiny Gomes doubled the advantage in the 24th minute, and only a minute later #7 Manny Firmino struck to make it 3-0. Firmino wasn't finished yet, adding his second goal of the match in the 44th minute to send Morabeza into halftime with a commanding lead.

The second half picked up right where the first left off, as Nuno Martins scored his second goal in the 48th minute, continuing Morabeza's offensive showcase. #13 Ahmed Elshanawany responded for Cranston Portuguese Club in the 57th minute, netting his first goal of the season and giving his side something to celebrate.

Morabeza continued to pour on the pressure, with Lucas Andrade adding another goal to bring their total to six. Cranston Portuguese Club battled until the final whistle, with Bruno Ramos scoring late for the hosts.

Final Score: Morabeza SC 6 – 2 Cranston Portuguese Club


CRCP Warren Soccer Club vs Academica FC

9:00 AM | Kickemuit Middle School, Warren, RI

This was a true battle from start to finish. #20 Joaquim DePina gave Academica FC the breakthrough in the 12th minute, finishing a well-worked attack and putting his team ahead early.

What followed was nearly 80 minutes of relentless competition, with both teams creating chances, defending fiercely, and refusing to give an inch. CRCP Warren pushed hard for an equalizer, but Academica's defense stood strong under pressure.

When the final whistle blew, Academica FC had done just enough to secure a hard-earned victory.

Final Score: Academica FC 1 – 0 CRCP Warren Soccer Club


Intelegencia FC vs TIGRE Futebol Clube

9:00 AM | Galego Court, Pawtucket, RI

One of the most exciting and competitive matches of the week took place at Galego Court as two talented sides went head-to-head in a thrilling showdown.

#7 Wilson De Pina put Intelegencia FC on the board in the 16th minute, showcasing his finishing ability. He struck again in the 48th minute, giving Intelegencia a crucial two-goal cushion.

TIGRE Futebol Clube refused to back down. In the 59th minute, #7 Humberto Vieira found the net to cut the deficit to 2-1 and set up a tense finish.

The final 30 minutes were packed with intensity, end-to-end action, and countless battles across the field. Both teams fought with determination, but Intelegencia held firm to secure a statement victory.

Final Score: Intelegencia FC 2 – 1 TIGRE Futebol Clube


São Nicolau vs RI Riptide

11:00 AM | Galego Court, Pawtucket, RI

The scheduled match did not take place due to a forfeit by RI Riptide.

Result: São Nicolau awarded the victory by forfeit.


Real Colombia vs Mexico

11:00 AM | Lusitania, Cumberland, RI

The rivalry lived up to the hype in a match filled with passion, quality, and spectacular goals.

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when #5 Andres Forero produced a moment of brilliance for Real Colombia. From distance, he unleashed a curling left-footed strike that bent perfectly into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance and bringing the crowd to its feet.

The intensity immediately rose as both teams exchanged attacks in a fast-paced and physical contest. Mexico found the equalizer in the 38th minute through #36 Abel Manzano, sending the teams into halftime level at 1-1.

The second half was just as entertaining. In the 70th minute, Manzano struck again, completing his brace and giving Mexico the lead. Just five minutes later, #7 Walter Noriega added another goal, extending Mexico's advantage and putting the match out of reach.

It was a fantastic display from both sides, but Mexico's second-half surge proved decisive.

Final Score: Mexico 3 – 1 Real Colombia

May 17th, 2026 Game Summary

9:00 AM — Martin Middle School, East Providence, RI 

Tigre Futebol Clube vs. RI Riptide 

Two new teams to the 2026 season battled it out in East Providence. The game went back and forth for most of the match, but in the 23rd minute, Tigre’s #10 Saint Clair Soares scored the only goal of the game to make it 1–0. Both teams had chances after that, but strong defensive play on both sides kept the score unchanged. Tigre Futebol Clube defeated newcomer RI Riptide 1–0.

9:00 AM — Chafee Field, Cranston, RI 

Cranston Portuguese vs. Intelegencia FC 

This was a one-sided match, with the veterans from Intelegencia FC taking control early. #17 Jose Debrito scored in the 8th minute, followed by #6 Helio Monteiro in the 10th, and Debrito again in the 11th. Cranston Portuguese got on the board in the 27th minute through #12 Joseph Cidade, but Debrito completed his hat trick before halftime. Intelegencia continued to dominate in the second half, adding four more goals from Jailson Morais (60'), #21 Fernando Spencer (65'), #14 Jairson Jesus (80'), and Spencer again later in the match to seal an 8–1 victory.

9:00 AM — Galego Court, Pawtucket, RI 

Santo Antão United vs. Morabeza SC 

This was a classic rivalry match between two teams that know each other very well. It was a hard-fought, back-and-forth battle, with both sides competing intensely throughout the game. In the 28th minute, #13 Varlindo Estrela scored the decisive goal to give Morabeza SC a 1–0 victory.

11:00 AM — Fish Hill Soccer Field, Coventry, RI 

PCFC Renegades vs. Mexico 

This was an exciting match from start to finish. Mexico struck first in the 27th minute through #36 Abel Manzano. PCFC Renegades came out aggressively in the second half and turned the game around with goals from #23 Glenn McCrory (52') and #13 Keith Heyward (54'). Mexico responded in the 77th minute when #10 Javier Montoya (AKA Di Maria) scored, then added another two minutes later to put Mexico ahead 3–2. In the 89th minute, Keith Heyward scored his second goal of the match to rescue a 3–3 draw for PCFC Renegades. A thrilling back-and-forth contest.

11:00 AM — Lusitana Field, Cumberland, RI 

Academica FC vs. Real Colombia 

Another exciting game between two technically gifted teams. #13 Erick Lopez scored two quick first-half goals to give Real Colombia the lead. Academica responded with two goals from #9 Silvandro Lopes to level the match, before #5 Artur Depina scored the game-winner to give Academica FC the victory.

Another fantastic and competitive week of soccer.

Week 1 of the RISC Over 40 Season Opener: Let the Action Begin!

What an incredible way to kick off the season! From dramatic equalizers to late-game heroics, Week 1 delivered excitement, intensity, and unforgettable moments across every match. Fans brought the energy, players left it all on the field, and the Over 40 division showed once again why Sunday league football is special.

Real Colombia 3 – 3 Cranston Portuguese

📍 Lusitania Field – Cumberland, RI
⏰ Kickoff: 9:00 AM

The season opener lived up to the hype with a thrilling 3-3 draw between Real Colombia and Cranston Portuguese.

Real Colombia’s Joao Marques opened the scoring early, setting the tone for an action-packed battle. Cranston Portuguese responded in the 66th minute when Joao Santos found the equalizer. Just moments later, Matthew Baptista gave Cranston Portuguese the lead, but Joshua Giraldo answered immediately for Real Colombia in the 68th minute.

Baptista struck again to restore the advantage for Cranston Portuguese, but the drama wasn’t over yet. In the 88th minute, Victor Zepeda delivered a clutch equalizer for Real Colombia, sealing an unforgettable finish to a Sunday league classic.

Mexico 2 – 0 Tigre Futebol Clube

📍 Gano Street – Providence, RI
⏰ Kickoff: 9:00 AM

After a scoreless first half, Mexico came alive in the second half with a dominant performance.

Javier Montoya broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, giving Mexico the momentum they needed. Abraham Montufar added another in the 81st minute to secure a strong 2-0 victory over Tigre Futebol Clube.

A disciplined defensive effort and clinical finishing helped Mexico start the season with an important win.

São Nicolau 3 – 1 Academica FC

📍 Bliss Field – Rehoboth Youth Soccer Field
⏰ Kickoff: 11:00 AM

This matchup featured high intensity from the opening whistle, with both teams battling hard through the first 30 minutes.

In the 33rd minute, São Nicolau’s #9 Autil Dos Santos Lopes broke through with the opening goal. He struck again in the 55th minute to double the lead and put São Nicolau in control.

Academica FC responded in the 72nd minute through Claudio Semedo, making it 2-1 and reigniting the contest. However, São Nicolau quickly regained momentum, and #14 Olademir Dias added the third goal to secure a 3-1 victory.

Don’t Miss This Year’s USASA Veterans Cup!

USASA is excited to share that registration for the 2026 USASA Veterans Cup is off to a strong start, with more than 60 teams already registered for this year’s tournament.

This year’s event will take place in Burlington, Vermont from July 15–19, and it is shaping up to be one teams will not want to miss. Now is the time to encourage your teams to register. With strong participation already building, great hotel options, prize money for champions, and additional tournament activities planned, this year’s Veterans Cup promises to be one of our best yet.

Division Start Dates:

  • Over 60 and Older: Starts July 15
  • Over 40, Over 50, Over 55: Start July 16
  • Over 30 and Open Division: Start July 17

We have also included a flyer with a QR code that you can share with your local leagues, other clubs, and any tournaments you attend this spring. We would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word and encouraging more teams to be part of this year’s event.

We also want to highlight that we have secured a strong selection of hotel options for participants. We worked directly with the hotels to arrange room blocks and negotiate the lowest rates available. These options include a variety of accommodations, including some apartment-style lodging, to give teams flexibility based on their needs and budget. Don't miss out on these savings.

New for this year, we are also offering prize money for division champions, which adds another exciting element to the competition.

In addition, there will be a major beer festival in taking place during the tournament, and we will be announcing more big news related to that soon. It will be another great feature that adds to the overall tournament experience for players, families, and supporters.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Lucia Fontes-Borts, beloved wife of David Borts, President of the RI Soccer Association, Rhode Island. Our heartfelt condolences go out to David and his family during this difficult time. Lucia Fontes-Borts, 67, of Seekonk, MA, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the beloved wife of David A. Borts for 35 years. Born in the Cape Verde Islands, she was the daughter of the late Eduardo V. and Regina (Barbosa) Fontes. Lucia was a Nurse Practitioner at several health organizations, an adjunct professor at Brown University Medical School, a member of AANP, and a Portuguese-language radio broadcaster in Providence. Lucia earned her Bachelor’s at Rhode Island College, MSN-FNP at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, and Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Sacred Heart University. Lucia’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. She found happiness in traveling, loved being at the beach, had a passion for gardening, and was a proud member of the Dahlia Society. When Lucia emigrated to the United States, she worked exceptionally hard, including being a founding member of the first Cape Verdean church in Pawtucket, Rhode Island — The Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her kindness and devotion touched many lives. She is survived by her husband, children Alex, Andrew, and Liana (fiancé Troy); grandson Ryan; siblings Jose (Maria Ivone), Ligia, Maria de Fatima (Luther Veiga), Antonio (Carla Alhinho), Maria do Rosario (Jon Carson); and nieces and nephews Patricia, Keila, Dulce, Gabriela, and Luca. Her funeral will be on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 8:30 AM from Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, with a Mass at 9:30 AM at St. Francis Xavier Church, No. Carpenter Street, East Providence. Burial at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Calling hours: Sunday, 3–6 PM, Perry-McStay Funeral Home. As Lucia was a breast cancer survivor, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory be made to Susan G. Komen.
